Microsoft Xcloud

Hi folks! Do you know about Xcloud? I know this might be a new term for you but I am very sure that you all enjoy playing games. Games like Clash of Clans, GTA Vice city, San Andreas, Need for Speed, etc. have become household names today. From a kid to even people in their 30s can be seen playing games in their free time. It has emerged as a new source of entertainment. Let me end the maze now. Today in this article I will talk about a new, still in the making, game streaming service which is codenamed as Xcloud. It is being developed by Microsoft. This tech giant is also working on a project named “Project Scarlett”, in which it is developing the so called fastest gaming console. Let’s have a look through the matter.

What is Xcloud?

It is a cloud based game streaming service developed by Microsoft. In this streaming service, all games will be hosted on servers at the data center of the company. Live video of the gameplay will be sent to you on your computer, laptop, tv or mobile screens i.e. whatever device on which you are playing the game on the internet. Then, whatever action you will perform on the controller or consoles will be sent back to the data center in the form of codes. In this way, game streaming will continue giving you the essence that you are playing it on your screen. Microsoft will host its services on its cloud platform “Azure.”

In E3 2019, the tech giant declared about console streaming. It disclosed about XBox Project Scarlett console and also said that cloud gaming would be at its core. Console streaming is that it will turn your Xbox One console into your personal cloud server. It will acquaint users  with remote access to all the games which they own stored on any devices. To play games in Xcloud users must have Xbox game pass subscription and next gen console called Project Scarlett.

What is Cloud Gaming?

Now you might be thinking what the heck is this cloud based streaming? In traditional streaming what you do is, either you purchase a game, then download it, install it, and then play with the help of consoles or you buy a compact disk of the game, install it and play. In the case of phone, you can play using the touchpad of the phone. In the scenario of cloud gaming you will have a different and enriched experience. When you start playing, the server runs a game and sends a video of the game play to you. All the work is done by the server, all your device has to do is stream video and input the commands.
